Peru

Historically, Peru was littered with gender based diversity problems and violence. This is including, but not limited to forced sterilizations and the killings of tens of thousands of poor and indigenous people. Nobody has been held fully accountable and this has had a ripple effect throughout country and company policies. In order to better manage diversity, Peru will have to focus on gender equality and implement it through political and company policy.

Some Things to Consider

The people of Peru have fought against the corruption of their government for decades. Many presidents have been ousted and imprisoned which shows the indestructible camaraderie among their citizens. This has had a massive impact on ever-changing governing policy, and companies should be aware and attentive of this.

Spanish is spoken natively by 82.6% of the population. However, it would be ignorant for companies to ignore the massive 13.9% of the population that speaks Quechua. There is a strong geographical divide between the coast where mainly Spanish is spoken, and the mountains and highlands where Amerindian languages are predominately spoken.

These are crucial attributes for companies to consider when deciding on expanding into Peru, and more specifically when deciding on geographic location.
